Are vacuum packing bags a casuality of security procedures?
My husband and I started using these bags - plastic bags with valves which greatly compress their contents - on flights last year. They greatly conserve space and, even on extended trips with multiple climates, we were able to travel with only a small bag each. It seems to me that their use is no longer possible given the new security regulations which give agents the right to unpack suitcases. Does anyone have any experience with this, or insights to add? Thanks.

Read the new NTSB rules. No where does it say you can't still pack your stuff in clear plastic bags. In fact, I heard a NTSB screener on one of the morning shows saying they liked clear plastic bags for packing. It allowed them to handle the person's clothes, visually inspect them, feel for any other objects, without actually having to touch the clothes. Personally, unless I had actually read something from the NTSB or the airlines saying don't use these bags, then I would continue to use them.

This isn't that difficult. If someone at the NTSB says its easier to check things in a plasic bag they mean its because they can see thru it while they feel its contents.
It the stuff is smashed between two layers of plastic in an airtight plastic casket they can not determine if there is anything semi rigid in it or other things which could be weapons.
