I am looking for accommodations for 4 adults and a baby for a long weekend in the spring. We need a location that would be easily accessible to a metro station. One of the adults will be using a wheelchair so accessibility is key. Any ideas for hotels with suites or apts. for rent? Thanks!

Try Embassy Suites. There's one near Thomas Circle in D.C.

I would stay in the city--otherwise, you'll end up at a hotel that has a Metro shuttle, or is just too far away from the Metro for your party to get there easily.

There's also one in Foggy Bottom, near the Foggy Bottom metro.

Just came back from DC with my 78 yr. old mother. She is able to walk, but is not very steady and tires easily. The escalators to the metro scared her (and me also on Dupont Cirle)! We could not really rely on the metro because of that. The Dupont Circle area is very nice, though. We stayed across the street from the Summerfield Suite on N, New Hampshire, and I think 19th St. Summerfield Suites have separate bedrooms and common LR/Kitchen area, and they're supposed to be nice. We relied heavily on cabs and took the Tourmobile. If you buy the Tourmobile ticket after 1 p.m., you can get 1-1/2 days on it for only $3.00 extra. Hope this helps.

While we are on the subject of Embassy Suites, there is also one at Friendship Heights near the District Line, located right at the Metro. Staying elsewhere in D.C. might be more convenient for seeing sights, but I don't know the disabled access or Metro access of some of these other locations already mentioned. Foggy Bottom Embassy Suites sounds good to me though, as Annie says.

Note that all Metro stops have elevators as well as escalators, although some stops' elevators may be out of commission (in which case there'll be a shuttle from an adjacent stop).

When we tried to get on the elevator to the metro, we were directed to a building (something like the correctional officers building?)that was at least 2 blocks away. This is not easy when the one you are with can't walk very far or very fast. On our way to find it, we got a cab instead.

JR--Weird. I've never had that problem, although I haven't been to every Metro stop, either. I wonder if the person you asked misunderstood your question, not that "Where is the elevator?" seems like a question open to much interpretation.

Actually, there is no elevator at the south entrance to the Dupont Circle metro stop, only at the "Q Street North" entrance to that station. So it makes sense that if you asked at the south entrance, you would have been directed to the elevator at the other entrance about 2 blocks up (above the Circle).

The elevator at Bethesda Metro also is a block or 2 away from the Metro stop itself, as it is at Courthouse.
