April Santa Fe weather?

Can anyone offer me some general info on April Santa Fe weather? is there some kind of fierce wind that typically blows hard and all day at that time of year? generally warm days (like 60s)? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

We've been there the last 2 years at the end of April on a motorcycle. While winds are bad south of Santa Fe, not especially bad in Santa Fe. Need jackets AM & night but during the day we were in t-shirts.

April {spring} in northern NM can be great or not. Typically, sunny days with bright sunshine and blue skies. Nights will be cool to cold. Temps swing 30+ degrees during sunlight and nighttime, so be prepared.

Wind can be an issue, especially along Rio Grande River valley, with blowing winds and sand/dust.

There can also be lots of pollen about, and if you are not from area, there can be some that you never knew existed and find yourself being bothered by them.

This week, the temps are unusually warm, with almost 70 in Santa Fe.

Due to the altitude, the sun always makes it feel warmer than what the thermometer shows. Dress in layers for maximum comfort.

If you live at or near sea level, give yourselves a bit of time to adjust to altitude. It can make you feel not so good [headaches, hard to breathe, more difficult for strenuous activity even if you are in good/great shape].

Use lots of sunscreen, lip balm and be prepared to use lots of lotion - it is VERY dry here.

Make sure you drink lots of water, it is easy to get dehydrated here. You don't sweat mcuh[it evaporates quickly due to the dry air] and may not even realize you are losing water.

Also, watch alcohol intake as its impact is greater here than at sea level.

Now that I have freaked you out, you will love Santa Fe - in April or any other time. It is a wonderful place to visit.

Thanks, Debi.
You gave us great advice two years ago for a trip in May 2007. We love the SF area and have been anxiously awaiting an opportunity to return. I just wanted to check out the wind thing -- I'm not too interested in trying to walk around in howling winds, and loved being to sit on a bench in the square soaking up the sun. It was great weather for sightseeing then. I hope we can pull it together for another trip.

Thanks for the tips Debi. We're going at the end of March and I was wondering the same thing.

March will be chilly compared to the end of April.

Good advice from Deb.
