Anything to do in Aimes, Iowa?

I'm heading to Aimes the first week in September. Although it's a sponsered trip, I think I'll have sometime during the day. Is there anything that shouldn't be missed? What about restaurants for lunch, dinner?

Thanks!

Serious?

If you are, there is a decent pizza place called Great Plains Pizza. That's about it.

do you mean Ames, IA

Most everything is associated with the University. Reimen garden is nice. Uhhhh, oh this is why I never have anything to do.

What kind of resteraunts do you like?

there are some interesting little places in campustown (bar district next to campus) and your usual chains on the highway.

I can come up with some specifics if you tell me what you like.

Well, how about chateaubriand? Who has the best in town?
Is there a Faconnable store at the shopping plaza?
And what about wine?
I love nothing more than a great '59 Mouton Rothchild. Where can I find a bottle?
Thanks for the help!

Yes, I'm serious about Aimes, IA. I don't have anything specific in mind, so where would be the one (maybe 2) places not to miss for dinner? It doesn't have to be fancy, just great food (no chains please).

honey, at least spell the town right. It's AMES! Someone has already called you on it and you're spelling it wrong. Nothing makes a native go crazy faster than misspelling their hometown.

Lived in AMES, Iowa for fourteen years. If interested in computer history, take a peek at the reconstructed Atanasoff computer in (surprise) Atanasoff Hall. It's the world's first digital electronic computer. Ames also invented the algorithim used in every fax machine in the world, but there's no blurb on this.

Reimann Gardens is nice. A stroll around Campustown might also interest you.

Two restaurants I recommend: Lucullans and El Cazador.

If you crave BBQ, great burgers, or breaded cheese balls, you've got to head out to Hickory Park.
