anyone use priceline for hotel for a family
Hi,
has anyone used Priceline to
book hotels for a family of MORE
than 2 people? Sorry I haven't
tried this...The biddingfortravel
web site has me scared.
If so, how did you request 2 Queens?
It freaks me out that 4 of us can
be stuck with one double or one queen.
Is it usually the case that a 4 star
hotel will provide the additional
bedding for courtesy reasons?
Let me hear any stories you have before
I miss out on priceline or make a stupid
mistake in using it!
Can I use expedia bidding and bid
more specifically, ie. # of beds and
rating of hotel?
Thanks

Anne Marie, I've used Priceline, but not for a family. And I'm very familiar with BiddingForTravel. Sorry it's scaring you, but at least you've got the benefit of reading other people's experiences.
On one of the pages during Priceline bidding, it clearly states the following:
"All rooms are requested non-smoking and will accommodate up to 2 adults. Bed type requests or other special needs should be requested through your confirmed hotel and are based on availability."
So I think that's pretty clear--Priceline doesn't guarantee a room that will accommodate more than two adults. Once you get an acceptance of a bid from Priceline, you can contact the hotel you got (or talk to them at check-in) and request a room that will accommodate more people--but the hotel isn't under any obligation to fulfill your request. I suspect many hotels would honor your request if traffic is slow, but you're probably out of luck if the hotel is almost fully booked.
With Expedia, you enter the number of adults and number of children who will be staying at the hotel, and the results from the Expedia search seem to include only hotels/rooms that will accommodate that number of people. I entered a test request with 2 adults and 2 children, and all the hotels that Expedia listed said their standard rooms could accommodate 4 (or more).
So if I absolutely had to have a room that could accommodate more than 2 people, I'd steer clear of Priceline and use Expedia or something else that guarantees me a room that meets my needs.
Hope this helps...

Anne Marie: Yes, I've used Priceline hotels for family trips twice now. Both times I've called ahead as suggested and requested two double beds. The first time, our room wasn't ready and the hotel (Wyndham BelAge in LA) upgraded us to a 1-br suite. The second time, I was flatly refused ("we are all booked for our 2 bed rooms" - bunk!). I didn't mention this to my family...when we arrived the clerk simply changed the room and we received the two double beds.
My tip: always call a couple days ahead to request two double beds, and not at a busy time (I called the second hotel at 10 AM - stupid - busy checkout time). And I figure, be prepared to purchase a second room or an upgrade - with the savings you get from Priceline, this remote possibility is ok with me!
Have fun! Don't worry!
