Anyone stayed at the Write Inn in Oak Park Illinois?

We are planning a Chicago trip and have found so many things to do in the Oak Park suburb that we are thinking about staying one night there before heading into the big city. Is anyone familiar with the Write Inn? It looks nice on their website. Also, any restaurant recommendations in Oak Park? Thanks!

Yes. My husband and I stayed there about 3 years ago and found it very nice. The place has an interesting history -- ask the desk clerk. The young man that was there send us to a Greek restaurant not too far away which was good and reasonably priced. It's close enough to downtown (at least on a weekend and for people who lived in Atlanta) that we didn't bother trying to find a place in the city.

The Write Inn is a charming, intimate, older hotel in a residential area of Oak Park. Older apartment buildings surround it, and beautiful 1920's era homes are only a couple blocks to the east and west. The "L" is about three blocks to the south ,which provides good access to downtown Chicago. O'Hare is about 13 miles to the northwest (cab runs around $25-30) Midway is about 10 miles to the southeast (cab runs about $20-25). Restaurants of good quality include: Marion Street Grille (American) - to the west about four blocks; Cucina Paradiso (Italian) on North Blvd, about four blocks to the south); Poor Phil's Shell Bar (seafood & short orders, to complete meals) on Marion Street about six blocks to the west and south; Papaspiros,(Greek) two blocks south and east on Lake Street, is the restaurant mentioned in the previous post; Giordano's (pizza, including Chicago style deep dish) is about six blocks west and north on Chicago Ave.; Gepetto's (Italian including pizza) is two blocks south on Oak Park Ave.; Mickey's Gyro's, (short order -sandwiches and of course, gyro's)is about seven blocks west on Harlem; and Maple Tree (breakfast fare) is about five blocks southwest on Lake. There are many others, yet these are among my local favorites. Hope this helps you enjoy your Oak Park stay!

I would advise you to not to stay in Oak Park. Crime ridden with too much ethnic diversity. Travel east about two miles and you are in the hood.
