Anyone stayed at the Renaissance Ilikai in Honolulu?
Found a $119/night rate for an oceanivew room. Is that a good deal? Does anyone know if the restoration work is done? Looking to stay there at the end of April. I'd appreciate any and all comments on their rooms, the property in general, location, etc. Thanks very much!

I think that the ilikai is a great bargain. I have not been since 96 you can rent ocean view/mountain view condos also by calling condo office. These are great for the money and cheaper in off season. This is for stays of one week or longer I believe. We stayed here for 1 month three years in row.
You have a Marina in front of complex then the ocean of course I am always surprised that I don't see it mentioned here more frequently. On Fridays we use to walk over the Hilton watch the Hula show and fireworks. You need only walk down cross a small lagoon area.
Ilikai has alway stressed that the best rooms face Marina (You do not want to be the Marina building though) very important to be in Main building. I don't like the annex from memory too many long term residents seeking inexpensive lodging. Getting a picture of who this attracts the rest of the complex was four star when I stayed there and this could have changed for the better since Renaissance took it over. You know I think someone bought it after Rennaissance maybe I am wrong. Best Oceanfront deal I could find on Oahu when I lived there. I was always searching for out of town guests. Go for it but consider condo option if you are going for a week I remember parking being free and conveinent here. Oh two pools, lobby is attractive and modern. What else???? Loved having breakfast on Lanais facing ocean. Nice proximaty from AlaMoana Mall so make a trip over.

Ann also at the Ilakai there is group Oleamana (sp) they have recorded albums I have found on the mainland. They use to remind me of Crosby Still Nash and Young with Hawaiian influence to describe them. We use to make special visits over to the Hilton just to hear them play even when we were not at the Ilikai. Apart from very nice original music they I also like how they pluck locals out of the audience for a less commercial hula. Hotel guests are always looking surprised but it gives you a chance to see hula celebrated in the culture as it was meant to be even if it seems a bit impromtu.

Sarah - thanks for all the helpful information.
Sheri - thanks for the heads-up. We're going at the end of April. I just checked their website, and the $99 rate is for a partial ocean view; the $119 is for oceanview, which is what we prefer, we figure it's worth the extra $20 a night! We did have to pay in advance, and it's nonrefundable.

Ann: I posted a similar question about two days ago, so browse around the news group and you might find it...titled "New Renaissance Illikai Waikiki"...anyhow, someone replied who is staying there now and painted a less than glowing picture of the place!! someone else responded that it was just horrid! So, I decided to pass on the place. I too am scheduling a vacation there for friends in April. Feel free to email me if you learn more.
