Sorry, I couldn't resist. I go to Vegas fairly often and thought I'd seen/done most everything. However, I can have learned something new......

I took my kids about 2 years ago. It is a very, very, VERY small zoo. I really would not even call it a zoo to be honest. Once inside the gates you can literally see the whole thing without taking any steps. It really isn't in a great part of town. It is fairly cheap, your son would get in for free, but I would not even bother to be honest. There are no lions, giraffes or anything like that, the most interesting thing was the emus.
What I will recommend instead and what my sons enjoy is Bonnie Springs. It is about 30 minutes from the Strip, you pay something like $8 to park your car, you ride a little train into the park (nothing else to pay). There is a petting zoo, and a western town where he would probably love seeing the cowboys and their cheesy gunfights. It makes for a fun "boys" day out!

PS-March would be a great time for Bonnie Springs because it can get really hot out there during the summer months. Another thing my boys love is to go to Sunset Park and feed the ducks. Sunset Park is huge, and it has a big lake in the center of it and many times people race remote control boats on it, he would probably love the ducks and boats.

Sunset Park is close to the airport. It is on Sunset & Eastern. From the Strip area you go east on Sunset (so you will be driving down Sunset with the airport on your left), you can then either turn right on Eastern and turn left into the park from there or cross Eastern and turn right into the park directly off of Sunset.

After the park if you keep heading east on Sunset you will end up at Ethel M's chocolate factory. You can walk him through it (it is free) and they will give him a free chocolate and then go outside to the cactus garden and walk through (also free).

Ethel M's & its garden is fine if you are already there (as you would be if you visited Sunset Park), but I don't think it is worth making a special trip.
