Anyone been to Labrador?
We had about given up on a location to go for summer vacation. Then saw a program on Labrador. We are considering flying into Nova Scotia driving to Newfoundland and then ferrying to Happy Valley.
I realize this is a question for the Canadian forum but...I will be leaving from southern Arkansas...help appreciated.

Do you mean you'll take the ferry to Newfoundland from Nova Scotia? Newfoundland is an island. I'm planning a Newfoundland trip this summer (not including Labrador) and got great advice on the Canadian forum. We're flying from New England to St. John's, Newfoundland.

I've been to Labrador trout fishing a couple of times, transferring in Happy Valley to a float plane into the lodge (Little Minipi trout camp). It's a pretty bleak place and I honestly can't imagine going there unless I had some very good reason (like the 5 to 10 lb brook trout about a half-hour flight into the interior). Nothing to do, not much to see, and nowhere else to go unless you're a fisherman or hunter.

Are you really sure you want to go to Labrador?
There are a lot more attractive parts of Canada, easier to get to, with better facilities, other than fish waiting to be caught.
Nova Scotia and newfoundland are great places for a vacation; it's only the last part of your plans that causes this query.

The Atlantic Provinces can be a wonderful vacation- PEI, Nova Scotia (I loved Cape Breton Island), ferry to Newfoundland (Gros Morne Natl. Pk. is beautiful). The drive up the western coast to L'anse aux Meadows/St. Anthony is scenic and very interesting. I would go to Labrador if I had a few extra days just to see what it is like but I don't think that you'll be able to get that far inland. I think it would just be cool to be there (an isolated area can be bleak but also very intriguing)

Thanx all. Labrador is supposed to the the "ALASKA OF THE EAST". I want to see the Northern Lights, an Iceberg, and whales. I love the rugged beauty of the North Atlantic coast. I want to visit the Grand Banks and yes it is a ferry to Newfoundland from Nova Scotia.
I also incorrectly stated when we want to go it is summer 2005 not this summer.
