I have been there many times. It is very quaint and as long as your not looking for nightlife it is a great spot. I stayed at the Eden Creek B&B. The Julian Hotel is vbery popular. Most of the restaurants on Main street are great. There was an italian restaurant that I ate at but it escapes my name. The rest are mostly just country cooking with toms of knicknacks to look at while you enjoy your meal. The old Tozers drug store is still there but I think they renamed it Juliand General store. It has an oldfashioned soda fountain and still reminds me of when I was a kid. On the weekends there are lots of people coming threw town and lots of vendors show up to sell there wares. I believe the Apple fest is late September into October. I would think you would like it. I also think a drive over to Dudleys Bakery in Santa Isabelle would be in order as well. It is beautiful up there.

Quaint quiet little rustic town. It is somewhat unique in the San Diego area but nothing much there that you wouldn't find in several hundred towns in California farther to the north. I too, a native Californian , never heard of it until I was taken there on a day drive by a friend in San Diego. It's great for a day trip from San Diego for a change of scenery but I'm not sure I would consider it a vacation destination. We ate at the General Store. Just a light lunch.

We spent a Thanksgiving weekend there about 3 years ago and loved it. There is a winery to sample some wines, a great pie place smack dab in the middle of town (great apple pies) and lots of restaurants to chose from. There are several B&B's-we stayed in an RV park.
Its a nice place for a weekend visit.

I grew up in San Diego and we made trips to Julian every fall, specifically to stop at Dudley's and get apple pies -- still the best I've ever had! I don't know that I would choose it as a vacation destination, but as a day trip from San Diego I recommend it!

Jayne, I live in San Diego. Julian, as other posters have said, is close to San Diego, high up in our local mountains, the Cuyamacas. It is famous for apple pies and Dudley's Bakery. It's a very small town and not far away you can take wonderful hikes in the mountains. I think there's an old mine to visit in the town, as well as the winery previously mentioned. Or, go down the east side of the mountains to the Anza Borrego desert and Borrego Springs. On weekends in October, it is very busy because of the Apple Festival.
