Boston Trip Report 9/21-23

We were in Boston before we heard the rumors that there might be a problem. Boston was NOT crowded this weekend so a lot of people must have cancelled plans. Good for us. Quincy Market area not crowded. Lots of choices for half-price theatre tickets. Theatre 1/3 empty (Cookin which ended Sunday). Got onto a Duck Tour within an hour. The weather was wonderful.

My husband and I are scheduled to go to Boston for our 5th anniversary - flying from Atlanta. I am paralyzed with fear about flying. Any comments about the airport security in Boston?

Security is now a "Major Focus" here (Boston) as well as elsewhere. Arriving you might not notice much except you cannot be met at the gates anymore. For your return, it will be harder. As long as you allow the amount of time they recommend (2-3 hrs ahead) you will be ok. Just don't carryon anything that can be construed as a weapon (finger nail files, Swiss Army Knives, etc., even ball point pens). There are armed guards and "random" security checks.
You will find Boston less crowded. Hotel occupancy is down. Restaurants, shows, tours will still be operating and less crowded. They have closed the USS Constitution and observation deck to the Hancock Tower, though you can still go up to the top of the Prudential.
Otherwise it is life as usual (The Sox and Patriots losing, people still drive bad).
Have a good time and be prepared.

John,
thanks for the message - we will be prepared. Also, one more question - where do you go to get 1/2 price theater tickets in Boston?

There are 2 booths. One in Copley Plaza. the other is in the Fanuel Hall/Quincy Market area. I think they open at 10 am for that day/night performances.
Take a "Duck Tour" if you are here before they close down for the season.

The 1/2 price ticket booth at Fanueil Hall starts selling half price tickets at 11 AM for that night's performances. You can also get full price tickets there. You'll have a great time in Boston. The Jackie Kennedy Exhibit at the JFK Library is wonderful. I think you can get there on the subway. It was very sad to watch a video of a JFK as a young US Representative explain why people in the Middle East hate us. Jackie was only 31 when she became first Lady. She did a fabulous job.
