Words of wisdom: make 200% certain that the car's air conditioner is working! Go into a K-Mart or a Target and buy one of those cheap cardboard windshield (wind screen) sun protectors, so you do not burn your hands and legs on the very hot seats and steering wheel.

Sue,
Thanks for the additional message. Aaah! Given that info, I think you will have a lovely time! The desert should be nice that time of year. As much as I like Tucson, I would think that switching that for Sedona might be a nice switch.
There are good outlet stores in a town (whose name I can't remember right now) an hour's drive out of Palm Springs on the road to LA. It is easy to find... lots of huge signs along the roadway, perhaps ask the concierge at your Palm Springs hotel for the details.
I think your best bet for an indian reservation would be in Arizona. If you stick with Tucson, they have a very cool little Spanish mission there... very unassuming from the outside, but if there is someone there who could walk you around and tell you its fascinating history, it is a very unique spot. Tucson also has one of the most unique Mexican restaurants I've ever been to, Cafe Poca Cosa in the downtown area. I highly recommend it. Happy travels!

Susan - in March your itinerary is great. Most are recommending Sedona over Tucson, but I really enjoyed the mission and other things near Tuscon.
What I might do is spend 1 night in Tuscon, 1 night in Phoenix and 2 nights in Sedona.
The outlets Brad mentions are at Ontario Mills in Ontario CA on the I-10 freeway near Ontario airport. it is probably the largest outlet mall in California.
