Any thoughts on the Beach House Suites by The Don CeSar, St. Pete Florida or Carol Ann Condo Resort in Treasure Island, Florida

I've stayed at the Beach House. It's a converted condo building about a mile from the Don Cesar. It has its own beach and pool or you can use the facilities at the Don Cesar. The units are perfectly fine, but nothing extraordinary. I remember that the bedroom was very small-but that's not really a problem since you have a fairly large living area(with kitchen) and I think all the units have a balcony.

I just happen to return from The Beach House Suites by The DonCesar this past Saturday. Lovely accomodations, superb service, but don't let them fool you. The are not BY the Don. It is a walk on the beach or on the sidewalk or by car or shuttle with MANY buildings between. But it did appear to be the nicest hotel in the area other than the Don.

BG, you got me curious. I live on TI, and today I drove by the Carol Ann. Well, it's just open after finishing its makeover, and it looks sparkling clean, if rather stark. Couldn't see the balcony/gulfront side, but drove underneath and saw a tiny pool and shuffleboard court. For my bucks (assuming price was equivalent for both), I'd definitely go with the Beach House. But as Ar said, it's not centrally located. The Don is a mile south, and the main shopping in SPBeach is a mile north, so you'll need wheels (or patience for the darling new trolley service). The Carol Ann is just north of the public beach on TI, about three blocks walk to shopping and dining.
Hope this helps!

I am currently staying at the Beach House Suites for two weeks. I agree the accomodations are very nice, "homey" feeling and CLEAN. I would recommend this hotel for any family or anyone who is staying for an extended period of time. They have full kitchens, washer/dryer, and every room has a balcony with a view. As far as the walk to the Don CeSar Hotel, the walk on the beach is very nice and only a ten minute walk MAX.... If you can't or don't want to walk, the Beach House Suites provides a free shuttle to the Don Cesar 24 hours a day! ...anyone with any suggestions on "must do" places to go or places to eat please let me know as I am here for 2 weeks! THANKS in advance!!

Ana - some suggestions: for great Cuban sandwiches, the Floridian on 107th Avenue, just one block off Gulf Blvd., and the R Bar on 108th, a block off. If you have a car, go north 15 minutes to Indian Shores and eat at Salt Rock Grill, right on Gulf Blvd. Some fun local, very local, places to have a drink at sundown or late at night, on Sunset Beach: Tiki, and Nicks - easy to find. You'll hear about everyone's divorce. Now for a truly funky scene, and smokey: Capt. K's to dance, at the bridge from Treasure Island to St. Pete Beach. The ladies are in their 60's but have 22-year old bodies ... it is a pure local scene, with maybe a few imports from jersey, and the music is good. Okay to have a beer, but eat here only at your own risk. Places to go if you'r a bit red, Gators at Johns Pass Bridge ... fun to watch, but only from up above on the bridge. If you're still down there August 31, just hit the beach near the Sunset Beach turn-off and yell "Leone" and you win a free Jack and soda. Have a great time, and walk the beach ... probably one of the great walks in this part of the world. Ciao

Ana, Leone is right on with his suggestions, with the exception of Captain K's (I call it the geriatric meat market -- all that gold lame -- Leone, how could you???). Also, Ana, go to the Salvador Dali museum in St. Petersburg. I'm not a big museum person, but his paintings are absolutely fascinating, and you must listen to one of the guides as they point out the details of his twenty foot paintings. Another restaurant I like to bring out-of-towners is Sea Critters south of the Don (have a sunset drink at the Hurricane, and go to Sea Critters to eat, sit outside). Also in the same nieghborhood (Pass A Grille) is the Seahorse, good burgers and "local" ambience. And for great breakfast, go to Le Croisette on Gulf Blvd at Corey Ave, just south of the bridge to Pasadena.
Have fun!

Okay, Joan, I know, I know ... we all have a little weaknesses ... so occasionally we do hit Capt. K's, late, for a beer and some dancing. I'm used to all types ... and thank goodness I am, because they certainly have them there. Someone actually took us to dinner there one time ... we survived, barely. You know, when I pass Ricky T's, they always seem to be having a great time. Do you know Captains Quarters ... using it this time around. Seems quite funky ... I know if you don't park rather tight, someone may take your car on down Gulf Blvd. on the front of their own. Have a great weekend, and I take it we'll never see you at Capt. K's, LOL. Ciao
