Any "new" restaurants in the Strand area of Galveston and has anyone been to the new Galveston Schlitterbahn

I'll be in Galveston (just for a day, however) in a couple of weeks. Any recommendations for a restaurant in the Strand (under $15 for lunch or dinner)--salads, burgers, good sandwiches,or anything Caribbean in flair?
Also, I love a good waterpark and wonder if anyone has been to the new Schlitterbahn?
Thanks so much!

Hi memejw
Thanks for the link.
Oh, dear, I'm going to have to show my ignorance and ask what a coona** is?! (I guess that means I'm not one-- Maybe I should be!?)

I haven't been to the new Schlitterbahn but I was there last fall when they were building it. It looks much more like a regular waterpark since it doesn't have all the gorgeous vegetation around it. Please report if you visit.

and I think a coona** is a coona$$, an old term for a swampdweller (almost a redneck but having too much fun to care)

Thanks, wsoxrebel for the coon** explanation--I think you're right! I'm a transplanted coon**, if that's the case.

There is a "new" place on the Strand that was excellent last year but just ok the time I went this year; it is called Bistro LeCroy. The owners are delightful and I had such good food in 2005...maybe I just hit an off night. It is a lovely atmosphere. On the Seawall I like Benno's and Seaside Bistro. Say hello to the island for me!
