Any ideas for a night between Tucson and Austin?

Any suggestions of a nice place to stay for one night while driving between Tucson and Austin? I like small independent hotels, cute little towns, quirky lodging (like the Tee-pees), beautiful landscape, great local food and nice people. Only one of the above would be fine.

Thanks!!

Oh, that caverns look amazing! I am not sure if I can add an extra day. If you had to choose, would you choose touring the caverns over visiting Marfa?

Ok, We are going to do it all.

Can anyone suggest a pretty place to stay and explore that is between Brisbee and the Carlsbad Caverns? It can be a little off the route.
Thank you!

In New Mexico, there is Gila Hot Springs (southwestern NM) or Cloudcroft (sort of south central).

Just noticed this new post of yours. I'd strongly recommend White Sands, a place everyone can enjoy. And given the time, you could also take a fairly short drive from the desert of White Sands to a beautiful little mountain resort by the name of Cloudcroft. Going from pure sand desert to a beautiful green mountainous area in only a few minutes is a real eye-opener.

My other post to your original question has some other comments.

White Sands is an interesting site, but spend the night in either Cloud Croft or Ruidoso for scenic. If you have time in that area, take the very short drive to Lincoln, New Mexico, home of some great Billy the Kid gunfighter legends.

Thank you for all the terrific suggestions! We are going to visit the Carlsbad Caverns and that will add an extra night between Brisbee and Marfa and unfortunately that is all that we will have time for. I had no idea that they were so many beautiful and interesting places to visit on this route. I think that we will have to come back to this area and spend more time exloring. Thank you for all the great help!
