Any ideas for a family weekend getaway?

Hi
This family of four (kids 10 & 14) are looking for suggestions for a last minute weekend getaway (by car) 3/16-3/18. We live in Mass near the NY border...have done Boston, Washington DC,Kennebunk,ME and Cape Cod. We are interested in seeing lots of things and require no specifics (we don't ski). A 6 hour drive would be okay and we would hope to spend 2 nights with breakfast in a hotel for $100-150 per night. We know it's not the best of seasons but since we're not in a position to travel further, to warm weather, we'd just like an interesting change of scene! We've considered Niagara Falls, NYC and Montreal. Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks
Bobbi

I'm not sure this fits into the six-hour drive limit but how about Philadelphia, Amish Country, Valley Forge, Hershey Park, Pittsburgh, Newport, Hudson River Valley, Albany, Niagra Falls, Mystic, The Hamptons.

If you have a whole U.S./Canada atlas, take a piece of string and measure the distance index for 300 miles (about six hours of driving), tack one end of the string in your hometown, spread out the other end of the string and then make a circle. Have the kids make suggestions for places in the circled area.

Hi, Bobbi,
Two words...Quebec City. Ought to be well within your time radius, but it will be an eye opener for your kids (you, too, probably) to see that much antiquity, beautiful buildings, historic sites, etc., all with a strong - make that intense - French and European flavor. You might even be able to afford the Chateau Frontenac with the present exchange rate, although Quebec has lots of good accommodations in your price range.

Definitely try NYC and NJ, depending on the time of year.
NJ has some great beaches, sports, casinos in Atlantic City, fine scenery away from the heavily populated areas around NYC.
NYC is a great place for museums, history, sports, UN. Go to the Statue of Liberty/Elis Island. Stop at FAO Schwartz (great toy store for browsing if you don't want to buy) You can take the Amtrak train if you don't want to drive.
I have 2 kids (same ages)and they love NY!

I am looking for similar trips for June and August with my kids, 11 and 13! We live near NYC and feel that we have exhausted the nearby locations, so I am looking for new ideas. Here are the trips we've taken in the past few years - most are reasonable driving distance for you: Toronto/Niagara Falls/"lower tier NY", Montreal/Lake Placid/Adirondacks, Smugglers Notch, Nova Scotia, Bar Harbor/Accadia National Park, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Dutch Country (Lancaster, PA), Block Island, Montauk Point and eastern Long Island. We also spend a lot of time in the Hudson Valley where we live and like Mohonk Mountain House for short stays. We've had great times on most of these trips although would not want to repeat Smugglers Notch, Lancaster or Montauk Point. I can e-mail you more details if you're interested. I'd be interested in hearing any other suggestions for a 3-7 day trip, also within driving distance of New York City.
