Another Arizona itinerary report
Well, it's been a week since my wife and I returned back east from a wonderful 9 nights in Arizona. Our itinerary was similar to Nina - I'm glad her vacation was great! Here are a few items that have not been mentioned:
Day 1 - Flew in Phoenix. Took 2 hours to get my rental from Alamo and drive to the Sunburst Resort (Camelback & Scottsdale). It's a 20 minute drive but the traffic was awful. Checked in and drove back toward the airport to see a Diamondback game. Miscalculation on my part. Great stadium, very fan-friendly. Hotel was fine, try to get it for $100.
Days 2,3 - Drove to the Grand Canyon and stayed at El Tovar. Standard rooms are small but clean. Dinner & breakfast both days was great...you must have dinner reservations a few weeks in advance! Note- People with 5:00 dinner reservations were lining up at 4:40 to get window tables! Hiking was great between the hours of 6AM and 1PM. Then, all the tours come in and it gets very crowded.
Days 4,5,6,7 - The best part! Stayed at a Enchantment Resort suite with spa services at Mii amo. There are 6 small pools around the property plus an indoor heated pool inside the spa and a large pool outside the spa. I will never forget relaxing (daily)in an outside hot tub surrounded by the beauty of the red walls of the Boynton Canyon. We will return!
Days 8,9 -Returned to Scottsdale and stayed at the magnificent Royal Palms ($245 suite). This place is simply beautiful! My wife shopped - loved the Biltmore shopping, liked the Fashion Square, disliked 5th Ave. & Old Scottsdale shopping.
Day 10 - Back to the airport: Curbside check-in,very fast!
Nina.....We did LV, Valley of Fire, Zion & Bryce last year...you will love it!. My wife and I are undecided which vacation was best!

Tom, We drove by the Royal Palms and it really did look gorgeous. I got the impression that it was more of an adult resort than for families. Is that the case?
I found the traffic in Phoenix to be horrendous too. Don't make the mistake we did though, for some reason the concierge's always gave directions through the city (and it's endless traffic lights) rather than around it on the highways. I didn't realize until the last day that we could've saved lots of time taking highways rather than going through town. I can't understand why they kept sending us that way when I asked for the fastest routes, other than it was easier to give directions that way!

Chetchy....I would agree with Nina that the Royal Palms in Phoenix/Scottsdale is more of a adult resort. It looks like an early Spanish mission with flowers and antiques everywhere. Staff is friendly and very accomodating. When I booked I asked for a rate that came up on an another reservation company...Got it! A week before staying there, I called to ask for a room off of Camelback Rd. When we arrived, the Plaza Suite facing Camelback Mt. must have been all they had off of Camelback Rd because that was what we were given! The location is very convenient...in-between the shopping malls of Biltmore and Fashion Square. The restaurant (T.Cooks) is very good and very expensive. The pool area is very pretty, with approx. 50-60 lounge chairs which were not completely taken until close to noon. We could not have asked for a nicer place to end a fantastic vacation to Arizona!
