Annoying Wyndham cancellation process

This is merely a Saturday morning complaint about a minor annoyance...

We had reservations at the Mills House in Charleston, SC, which is a Wyndham Grand Hotel, which we had to cancel. The Wyndham app would not let us cancel, kept spitting out an error message. So we called the Wyndham 800 number.

First rep needed every single little bit of information about the reservation, not just the reservation number but the name, address, hotel, location of hotel, type of room...and when we had given her all that she said, "oh, Wyndham Grand, I'm going to have to transfer you."

Second rep took the reservation number and hotel and location of hotel and said (wait for it) "oh, Wyndham Grand, I'm going to have to transfer you." But first, he asked if he could make a reservation for us somewhere, anywhere. Uh, no, thanks.

Third rep said, sure, I can cancel that for you, but would you like to hear a brief presentation about our fabulous timeshare properties? NO, WE WOULD NOT. WE WANT TO MAKE A CANCELLATION.

Which was finally done. I am not a serial Bewarer on these boards--you know, Beware AVIS, Beware Mariott, scam scam scam etc.--but today I vowed to think twice before booking a Wyndham Grand property again.

I'm sure I will forget my vow. But there it is. Beware, lol. And Happy Saturday!

If it becomes that difficult, requesting an immediate email confirmation might be in order, too.

Was I hallucinating, or was there a reply before mine?

There was indeed. On my screen, it says it was removed by moderators...so spam?

Hey, Newbe, was it an option to call the hotel directly? I hate the run around with 800 numbers usually. Good to know that about their app, though!

sylvia3, great minds think alike! We wrote down the cancellation confirmation number, and asked for an email confirmation, which did arrive.

marvelousmouse, good question, we clearly should have tried to call the hotel directly, although maybe it wasn't an option?? Not sure.

The Wyndham app is light years worse than the Mariott app, I can tell you that. But maybe the inability to cancel was just a temporary glitch.

Marvel, i read the post before mine, and it was accusing newb of directing this post at them(?!). I thought I must have confused threads, but didn't bother to go looking for it.
I always make copies of cancellations now, given that penalties against your cc can be a real pain to get refunded.

I assumed that post was spam, never saw it before it was removed. Strange.
