Planning a 20th anniversary trip to Maui in mid June; eight days, seven nights. Considering staying at the Maui Prince. Yes? If no, suggestions? We like outdoors active sort of stuff. Any must see or do suggestions?

1. Road to Hana (dinner at Mama's Fish House)
2. Sunrise at Haleakala
3. Visit Maui Ocean center, consider nearby snorkeling excursion(e.g. Four Winds) or day trip by ferry to Lanai.

Great for starters. What about Makena as a place to say? Good or too far away from action?

Congrats did the same 4 years ago , May was our month. First look at activity warehouse ( an activity booking agent ) and all the other agents on the internet , to book activities. Reason is a lot of dates are booked up early.

Now for some suggestions. 1. The road to Hana, all the way around , and pack 2 meals and snacks and beverages. 2. Book a dinner cruise all are good my favorite was the catamaran cruise, we saw some whales all female and babys but by june there all gone. 3. Snorkle black rock and enjoy the whalers village area and boardwalk in Kannapalli 1/2 day- full day. 3. I second the four winds snorkle trip. 4. Book a hiking trip to remote water falls. 5. Relax and very snorkeling in Wailia area beaches, also there are competion kyaking teams there that advertise rowers need to help condition the teams , its a blast.

ONE note on the road to Hana , rent the C.D. for the road to Hana , but after the C.D. stops there are a few black sand beaches that most at this point never find , so look for them nesteled below ( low ) cliffs and drop offs. And along the way hike the rain forest the tape tells you about up coming hikes. As im sure you have read start early and get back late, 12 hour day but to me worth every hour. nick

The more I read on these posts and in books and internet articles, it seems hard to go wrong anywhere in Hawaii. Thanks for the help making the trip more right.

Re: Makena

The Maui Prince is the end of the line, so it's very quiet and away-from-it-all down there. We prefer the Wailea area over the Kaanapali area because it's much more laid back, quiet, and way less crowded and crass. If you're looking for real serenity, the Maui Prince is the way to go, and the South Maui beaches and snorkeling are wonderful and empty, even last July.

You'd have to define "action" for me to answer that question.

I would recommend getting "Maui Revealed". It was very helpful in planning our trip.
