Planning a visit for a weekend in 2 weeks, is Annapolis a nice option? Any places to stay?

Annapolis is a great place for a weekend stay. A little information about yourself and the things you like to do would be helpful.

I agree: the town is lovely. We need info from you (including price range for restaurants and lodging).

If you would like a suite or small apartment type accommodation I'd suggest that you look over on Admiral Cochrane Drive where there's Marriott's Residence Inn, Homewood Suites, and a number of other good inns to stay at. Prices are generally pretty good on weekends as most corporate rentals are during the week.

If it's downtown then the only waterfront is the Marriott and it's kept well enough for a good recommendation.

As for food - I'd always recommend Carrolls Creek in Eastport - it overlooks Spa Creek and the food is super! Chart House is about 4 doors away and is always nice too.

Otherwise if you're after a burger and brew then try Middletons, McGarveys, or Frannie O'Briens - all good Annapolis eateries and pubs.

Ok so we're open on the lodging...if it's a beautiful place willing to pay 200 bucks or more....

Dinner- we live in NYC, love fine dining and dives as long as it's good. Would love to try something more "native" so seafood would be yummy.

Husband is a history buff...I've read there are some nice historical/maritime items there? What else to see/do?

oh FYI, we used to be pretty active, outdoors, hiker types but i'm 24 weeks pregnant and this is a mini getaway pre baby -babymoon...so low key, nice but not loads of heavy activity.

The best place we've ever stayed in Annapolis is the William Page Inn (if you can snag a room with a bathroom).

Annapolis is a great walking town. The Wm Page Inn is close to the Naval Academy, St Johns College, and the City Dock area which is where you'll find lots of restaurants, shops, tourist sightseeing cruises, etc. From what you've said, I think Annapolis will be perfect for you - lots of history and historical preservation. Hopefully, the weather will be warm in 2 weeks because Annapolis is beautiful in the Spring.

It's been years and years since I've been to Annapolis but as I recall isn't there a museum at the Naval Academy?

Lot's of good restaurants...many a little expensive. Some ideas would be..
O'Leary's Superb seafood
Rockfish Cafe Ex O'Leary's owner
Piccolo Roma Intimate Gourmet N. Italian
Cafe Mormandie
Galway Bay Irish Food
Ram's Head Tavern Local brewery and outside seating if warm...good for lunch.
Lemongrass. Fairly new Thai...really great food. It gets a little busy..so maybe good for an early meal or lunch.

These are all on the main street or just off the main street...5 mins away are..

Northwoods Cafe....French and well renowned..intimate.
Les Folies Lovely atmoshere and super food.
Jalapeno's Mexican gourmet...now with tapas.

Naval Academy Museum - that's a great suggestion for a maritime history buff.

Just remembered..

Quiet Waters Park is great for a stroll. About 5 minutes from the center of Annapolis. I think the entrance fee is now $3 per car...you can walk along the waterfront and through the woods.

Another restaurant that you should not miss is..

Paul's Homewood Cafe. It is just north on Main Street..about 2 mins from center. Small but with parking. A hideout for many Annapolis residents. I think better for lunch. Super service.
This is just our opinion..but don't be tempted by Phillip's Seafood restaurant in the harbour. Location is good, but food horrible!
Take a walk up Maryland Ave..lot's of quint shops.

Quiet Waters is a great idea. If you go, be sure not to just stay in the "open" parts of the park. The trails thru the woods are wonderful (and at this time of year-- before the trees are leafed out-- you'll be able to see the water better). Be sure to find the trail that looks out over a big expanse of the South River. (In Annapolis proper, you'll be on the Severn River-- another beauty).
By the way, I don't know what sorts of tour boats might be running at this time of year, but if you can, I suggest taking some sort of water tour-- maybe even over to the Eastern Shore (in the summer you can go from Annapolis to St Michael's on a very comfortable boat). And whichever towns you visit, please be sure to take the walking tours. To us, the wonderful old streets and houses and gardens are infinitely more interesting than the main streets and shopping.

Poss...i think the tours are workig at weekends right now. You also take a water taxi to one of the waterfront restaurants.
