It has been thirty five years since I have been to Carmel By the Sea .. My husband and I went on honeymoon .. We have been back to SF .. Nappa and Sonoma .. but not to Carmel .. We are planning a trip for next spring or fall .. my son was recently engaged .. so it will depend on the wedding date .. I was pushing for Savannah and Charleston .. as I have never been .. but after reading your post .. I have had a change of heart .. It is time to return to Carmel ... Thank you ! A great post and most inspiring .. ! !

I wanted to add to Andrew8's very well documented trip report, that I (Steelygirl) enjoyed a wonderful, hour long massage at Post Ranch Inn that couldn't have been more relaxing followed by a nice dip in the hot infinity pool; truly magic!
Post Ranch is what I equate with absolute bliss and beauty! We cannot wait to go back.
I must also say that while A8 was paddling in Carmel-by-the-Sea, I truly enjoyed a drive along 17 mile drive and some shopping in town, followed by a mouth-watering, right out of the oven, chocolate chip cookie and iced americano from the Carmel Bakery. A staple in our travels to Carmel.
We are so looking forward to be out "West" again soon!

Thank you Cat !!
CP,
I took over a 1K of pictures as I always love taking them in Big Sur and Carmel.
Depending how I feel, were heading back to Post Ranch in mid March for Steely's B'Day or in early October of next year. This time for 5 days as we can't get enough of the area.
No matter how I feel, we always try to get away as much as we can.

I wanted to add that I want to feel as strong as possible when in Big Sur as you there's so much we love to see and do in the area.
Also wanted to add that on our last night at Post Ranch, I went to the library to view some of the baseball game. At that time I started talking to a gentleman about NFL Football and sports in general.
After speaking to him for 10 minutes we introduced ourselves and then realized he was a long time NFL team owner of a team in the NFC.
For the next hour and a half we gossiped about the going's on in Dallas with Jerry Jones, Al Davis in Oakland, Daniel Snyder in Washington and of course his team.
It was nice that he had such high regard for my New Giants and the Mara family and the late Bob Tish.

Thanks Andrew, you look great, Stay healthy, Steelygirl looks wonderful also and your photos are a reminder for me of my trip way back when I stayed nearby at the Ventana Inn when it was owned by the Byrds.

Patrick,
We would have loved to have gone but my wife had to go to her father's college reunion on Saturday and I had my hands full last week with my Mom's melanoma surgery or I would have come alone. It's great that you all had such a great time.
Thank you MiMi !
When we were out at Post Ranch we learned that Ventana had a huge structural fire at Cielo. The Inn has been closed since July and are scheduled to re-open October 31st with a small kitchen set up in the lobby. Cielo isn't expected to reopen until April 1, 2009.
We've enjoyed eating outdoors at Cielo during our past visits to Big Sur.
