Andersonville in Chicago? How is this area?

Hello.

Just looking at a place in Andersonville. I've never heard of this area and am wondering what it is like as a place to live?

Cheers,

Wouldn't it be easier to put all of the places you are thinking of moving to in one post instead of littering the board with multiple posts on basically the same topic?

Andersonville may have been a Swedish neighborhood at one time--currently, it is best known for its large lesbian population.

It's relatively low-density, in that there aren't many apartment buildings more than 3 stories. Lots 3-flats and vintage courtyard buildings--not sure how much new construction has gone on, but if it's like any other North Side neighborhood, likely a lot.

Decent selection of pubs and restaurants, and within walking distance of the El.

It's is a nice neighborhood, better than Edgewater. Close El access. Again check metromix for restaurants, activities, etc. Can't say I knew it had a large lesbian population but don't let that sway you- my husband lived in boystown for a few years before we got married and loved it (no, he was not bi- or homo-sexual at the time!)

One of my favorite bars is in adersonville. Hopleaf - they have 100's of beers available and the speciallize in Belgian ales ( my favorites). There are some great restuarnts. Some parts are a little close to uptown which can be a bit seedy. The Red line crosses at berwyn and broadway on the far east side of andersonville. the clark and foster area(central andersonville) is a major hike to the EL(IMO). but you have busses on foster and clark.

If you like andersonville you might want to consider lincoln square also it is a very cool ethnic european style area. lots of great restuants and a cool little square with a fountain. also old town school of folk music. serveral El stops and a metra stop
