Anchorage Restaurants

I will be staying at the Captain Cook Hotel in Anchorage in September and am looking for some good local restaurants. Thanks very much.

You had a few replies on your post four days ago.

Some of the best are Marx Brothers, the Corsair, the Crow's Nest ....

Most folks enjoy Simon & Seafort's, especially if you get a view table, but recently one poster here was underwhelmed -- I'm guessing it was probably a bad day. Sometimes S&S doesn't handle the tourist crush well.

But you'll combine fantastic scenery with great food if you head to the Double Musky in Girdwood. The Turnagain Arm drive is my favorite road anywhere -- especially at low light and the Musky is an Alaska classic.

Also in Girdwood is the 7 Glaciers at Alyeska.

We had a wonderful dinner at Orso's, which is right down the street from the Capt Cook. The concierge at the hotel said Orso's is her favorite place in Anchorage. My wife -- who is not a big seafood fan -- raved about their cashew-crusted halibut.

Good Anchorage downtown restaurants -
Orso - nice atmosphere and good food
Sullivan's - ditto, steak primarily but also seafood
Simon & Seaforts - variety of foods
Marx Brothers - gourmet, intimate atmosphere
More casual but fun - Humpy's, Brewhouse, Snowgoose
Midtown Anchorage - Jen's (in a strip mall but so good!) and also Campo Bello's - both places are locally owned, small places with nice atmopheres and excellent food!

that's a pretty solid list -- especially with the additional of wonderful Jens and Orso -- but the best steaks downtown are the the kitschy Club Paris ...
