Anara Spa in Kauai
I am anxiously counting down the days until my honeymoon (October)! On the second leg of the honeymoon (we're starting in Maui), we are staying at the Hyatt in Kauai for six nights. Has anyone experienced the Anara Spa at the Hyatt? If so, can you suggest any treatments they offer? I have the brochure, but wanted to hear from a first-party. Thanks in advance.

Hi Melissa, Congrats on your upcoming wedding. You will LOVE the hyatt Kauai and the Spa. We returned in June from our sixth stay at the Hyatt in the last seven years. So you can tell how we feel about it. Th Spa is awesome. You walk in and our greeted by a reception team where you sign in and can reserve various treatments.
I don'tknow if you got a package deal but typically the spa costs extra just to use the facilities and then the treatments cost on top of that. Hint-if you are not a gold passport member sign up-you get a break on the fee for just using the facilities (i.e sauna, steam room lockers, pool). I just made a mistake-on days where you are to get a treatment, the spa facility fee is free- it only costs to use on days when you don't have atreatment schedule.
Tip #2-decide what you want early and sign up for it. On sunday- the earliest massage we could get was on the following Friday- it can book real quick as their are so many guests. The massage is the only service I've got and it was great. my wife has doneone of the facial treatments and and the manicure/pedicure which she sadi was heaven. I know a lot of people who have done the whole or half day package and have had nothing but great things to say. BTW the "free" stuff is great too- the steam room is very clean and very hot (there is one for women and one for men so you usually go in your birthday suit to get the full effect. The weight, treadmills, and stai machines are state of the art.
Last two tips- ask for a room down towards the spa i.e. one that ends in 00-20 or so. It is pretty quiet down there and the spa can literally be just a few step away from your room. Lastly we would use the spa late in the afternoon before we got ready for dinner and would have the place to ourselves (relatively speaking) compared to what we saw in the morning when it looked pretty packed.
Hope this helps -you will love it. Just e-mail me if you have any other questions i'd beglad to help... Chuck

Hi Maxine, sorry I can't recall if it costs more for non-hotel guests. As I recall it won't break the bank maybe around $10 a day to use the facilities. The treatments are fairly expensive, I think it was $60 for a half hour massage. Perhaps Melissa has the prices if she still has the brochure.

Thank you all for your feedback! I will definitely check out the Grand Wailea while we're in Maui. Chuck, thanks for the tips on the spa - I'll sign up for the gold passport. Everything looks amazing. Maxine, I'll bring my brochure with me tomorrow to check on prices for you.

You are not excused! You know eveyone has there own opinions on what is important to them. Unless you can contribute something meaningful to the question posed, I'd suggest keeping your opinions to yourself.
Do you know for example that one of the most popular massages is for couples only and that they teach you how to massage each other? I don't think being on ones honeymoon precludes one from enjoying a professional massage-Do you?. What exactly is your point? That because it is her honeymoon she can't have a massage or other treatments. Besides if you re-read the posts you will see that it is Chuck that speaks about massages and gives the price as an example. Melissa doesn't speak about any treatments in particular.
So what are you saying-she shouldn't have any of the treatments because she is on her honeymoon? No facial, manicure, pedicure whatver. I really don't think your comment has any value and I think you should shut up unless you don't mind being viewed by the whole world as an idiot.

Really so sorry if I offended you, NotBonnie! It somehow just struck me as hilarious that someone is paying to be massaged on their honeymoon - doesn't that tickle anyone else's funny bone? I'm going to go chuckle a little more ........ Of course, to each their own thing, I'm not being critical .........I still think it's funny!

Maxine - for a general daily spa pass it costs $25 for non guests. That's w/ fitness membership, locker, whirlpool, sauna, steam room, showers, sun area, pool, bath & beauty amenities. It's cheaper if you're a guest ($15/day).
To Bonnie - a spa offers way more than just massages. There's a ton of ways to pamper yourself at a spa (though they have a couples massage class that sounds cool). Regardless, the person I'd want the massage from is my husband-to-be without a doubt, but I don't think he's qualified for a seaweed body masque.

Melissa,
I sincerely apologize to you! When I said that "I could find better ways to spend my time and money," I should have added "if you know what I mean!" (with a Groucho Marx eyebrow wiggle) That really is how I meant it -
I know there are wonderful and numerous treatments at a spa, and I was just kidding! I'm afraid I didn't recheck the way it sounded before I hit my reply button. Again, my apologies!
I know that your honeymoon is Hawaii will be great!

Hi Melissa, I'm glad you were able to find the rates for Maxine. If you remember what I said in my original response about joinging Hyatt's frequent guest program (the Gold Passport) I believe the savings will be 50% as I think the spa was $7.50 a day for us while we were there.
So if you are going to use the spa on days when you don't have a treatment, the savings can really add up and besides the gold passport program is free anyways.
I am so jealous, every time I read about the Hyatt on Kauai, I want to go back. As I said, we have been blessed to have been able to go six times since 1992 but I keep wanting to go back! Don't forget to visit the Stevensons Library Bar just off the main lobby. Every night at 6:30 they show a half hour video of Hurricane Iniki and the damage it did to the hotel. Its really moving and is really a tribute to all the people who were able to put the hotel back in operation in under six months. You will have a superb time! Congrats again.
