Anaheim hotel help!
If you had to choose from these hotels, which would you choose and why? Thanks a bunch for any advice and/or input!
Portofino, Hilton Garden Inn, Castle Inn, Park Place Inn, Howard Johnson Plaza, Anaheim Travelodge International, Anaheim Fairfield Inn..
We want to be close to the park (to walk or take a shuttle) and would like a free breakfast and fridge/micro in room if possible (fridge more important!). Thanks!

Sue - there are so many hotels in Anaheim (more than 60 pages in the latest AAA book and that only includes about 75% of the total) that the competition is really fierce. Each one in the same price range will be about the same and offer exactly the same amenities. Just pick the one that you can afford - if thay are all about the same price - flip a coin.
It is unlikely anyone will have stayed at more than one or two of those listed so you won't get a valid comparison anyway.

Sue, we just got back, stayed at the Howard Johnson's on Harbor. It was close enough for us to walk, maybe 10-15 minutes. They did not have breakfast, the room did have a refrigerator, no hair dryer. There was a complimentary shuttle that left every 1/2 hour. My only complaint on the room was that the curtains didn't cover all of the windows so we were up with the sun. And they didn't have the right room rate in the system although they fixed it when I mentioned it. I always bring a printout of the confirmation with the room rate on it just in case.
If the Park Place is a Best Western, I think it was the closest (at least on that side of the park) and the Castle Inn was also pretty close.
It had been a few years since we had been at Disney. They added a free fast pass service so you can get a reservation and then skip closer to the beginning of the line at a designated time. But I think you can only have one reservation at a time so be careful with rides like Indiana Jones where the wait times can be several hours on the fast pass.

We stayed at the Portofino this past May. If you have kids, the "Kids Suite" is definitely the way to go. There are french doors that divide the kids sleeping area (with a bunk bed and sleeper sofa) from the adult's bedroom area. There is also a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, hair dryer, two televisions, etc. It's only about a 10 minute walk from Disney and we could even see the fireworks from our window.
There wasn't a complimentary breakfast, but there are lots of stores in the area to get your supplies (even a Target down the road).
I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially if you have a family.

try www.mouseplanet.com
It's an unofficial guide to Disney's worldwide. Go to the Disneyland Resort heading and under it you will find "Reader Reviews of Offsite Hotels", Click, and you will find a list of hotels in the area and peoples reviews of their stay there.

Sue,
One of my family's favorite places to stay near Disneyland is the Candy Cane. You can easily walk to Disneyland or take the shuttle. The Candy Cane has a great breakfast (every morning out by the pool), nice rooms, good service, and is usually priced very competitive. It is a smaller facility, with a high level of upkeep.
