Amtrak discount NY to Philadelphia

I've been searching for Amtrak discounts for weeks but have had no luck. I'm going to Philadelphia from Albany, NY in a few weeks and am still hoping to get a better deal than just a AAA discount. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't think I've ever seen Amtrak special discounts other than the ones on their web site (Hot Deals, Weekly Specials, discounts for AAA , seniors, etc.). The only possible exception is that high-school juniors and seniors are eligible for a buy-one-get-one-free ticket if they're visiting a college.

The trains from NY to Washington, DC (via Philadelphia) are extremely busy and popular, so I doubt you will find any great sales. If you want to save money, take Amtrak to NY Penn Station, transfer to NJ Transit, then to Septa at Trenton. Will probably take you an extra 1.5 hours but may save you a lot of money.

There's a long list of discount codes at www.flyertalk.com. I'll be looking for the link later for another thread, so if you click on my user name later tonight, you should be able to find them too.

Thanks Betsy!

I just tried the discount code I found through the Flyertalk link you posted (V769) but it didn't work on the Amtrak website for some reason although I have no idea why. I will try calling them 'cause I had a smilar problem another time when I tried to book a trip online with a discount code. 50% off companion's ticket would be a substantial savings 'cause Amtrak fare R/T fare from Albany to Philadelphia is $140 each with no discount! At that price, we may just drive even though I really didn't want to do that. I don't really want to waste alot of time trying to take a commuter train from NYC just to save a few bucks. Will let you know how we manke out when I call. Thanks to everyone! Here's what was on Flyertalk.

Just tried the H570 code that yk suggested and that DID work making the total for each R/T fare $105 each @ 25 % off so may use that one. Thanks again.

Check Amtrak's website regularly, they have weekly discounts, each week a different one.

A friend and I used a discount from the Amtrak site on a trip from Philadelphia to NYC this spring. The special fare was associated with a broadway play, but you don't have to go to the play or buy combo play/train tickets.
