Hello. We are over from England early April and taking the overnight Chicago to Memphis then later the day train down o New Orleans. We have booked a Superliner roomette and note this includes food. As the train times are 8.05 arriving at 6.27 how does the food part work? Dinner? Dinner and breakfast? Do you get woken up in time to shower and breakfast? Any advice generally about this part of the trip gratefully received. Regards Andy & Wendy Devon England

You are aware that this roomette does not have a toilet or shower? Instead there shard facilities in each car. I assume if you tip the staff appropriately they would wake you - but not sure of availability of shower at any specific time.

There are plenty of food spots inside Chicago Union Station. Eat before you board the CONO.
I doubt that you will be able to get any breakfast before you get to Memphis unless the train runs late for some reason.
Across Main Street from the station in Memphis is the Arcade restaurant which was an Elvis hangout.
On the CONO leaving from Memphis enroute to New Orleans, you will be able to get breakfast soon after you board the train. You will also get a lunch before you get to New Orleans.

I'm guessing there won't be any line for the shower anytime after 10 PM up until 5 AM. Pack your hotel soap & shampoo as you may not like the Amtrak provided soap. The towel and washcloth are down near the lower level luggage rack.
If you choose the coach seats from Memphis to New Orleans you will have to pay for your breakfast. You can and many people do bring their own food on board if they are traveling in coach.
