American Airlines to Hawaii

Depends on what the extra FFM's are worth to you, but...first class in most two class planes these days buys you a wider seat and a little more leg room, sometimes a little better food and service (though the gap is narrowing between coach and 2 class first).
If you accumulate miles quickly (business travel, credit card, etc), I'd use the extra miles.
But I've become more and more disappointed with domestic first. Just ain't what it used to be.

Thanks Steve. My total airtime will average between 11 and 13 hours. I think my tall husband will appreciate the legroom. I really like First and business class to Europe...but coach e-tickets from my market are such a steal these days. It doesn't seem smart to spend 40-60K miles on a flight I can get for less that 300 bucks. Unfortuately, Hawaii is NEVER on sale from where I live. I priced the first class ticket and it came to nearly $4800! Yipes. I know it isn't worth $4800. I really don't think a coach flight is work the $1000+ I was quoted. Thanks for the info.

We have travelled twice and are going back first class on American From Orlando via DFW. Service is great. It is probably the longest meal youi will ever have. You start with mimosas and hot nuts, and go to a full course from there. It is 9 hours from dfw and I would not travel any other way. We cashed in miles on the 60/40 companion, so it was a hundred thousand for both. well worth it.
