I'll be driving from Hartsfield Airport in Atlanta to Alto, GA...can anyone tell me what lodging might be in the immediate area. I know it's far from the city;but can't find out how far we'd be driving from the airport to Alto. Have looked at mapquest and randmcnally, but no luck. Thank you in advance.

Alto is in NE Georgia, between Gainesville and Toccoa. There are several chain motels in Gainesville, and you're not too far from one of my favorite B&Bs, the Glen-Ella Springs Inn, Clarkesville,Web:www.glenella.com. I'd drive I-85 North from ATL airport, taking 985 to Gainesville, think it's Hwy 365 from Gainesville to Alto. Should be about 1.5 hours or a little more, depending on time of day, traffic, etc.

The largest city closest to Alto is Atlanta. Go for a small city like Gainesville, most of the roads are paved.
