Alternative to Fredricksburg?

My husband and I are flying into Austin next weekend May 5, and he needs to be back in Austin Monday morning. We thought we'd go to Fredrickburg which we have visited in the past, but the more I read and remember, I think we've seen enough of it. Is there anyplace else with a 2-3 hour radius of Austin that would be fun/interesting to visit Friday-Sunday? I like the cute nature of Fredricksburg but think maybe once is enough. Also would maybe a recommedation for a B and B or spa out in the Hill Country anyone can recommend. Thanks for any thoughts.

Have you thought of San Antonio? Or perhaps a lakefront hideout on Canyon Lake? Just depends if you want to "veg" out or if you want to see some sites. For toobing on the Guadalupe, try Gruene where you can also take in the huge outlet mall in San Marcos. For boating on a lake, try Marble Falls or Canyon Lake. Of course, San Antonio has the Riverwalk and the Alamo.

I agree with the recommendation for San Antonio, which is a little over an hour South of Austin via I-35. It's a great place to spend a weekend, and the weather this time of year is great. Do a search here for recommendations of restaurants and things to do.

I was going to suggest Gruene as well but it looks like you're all set up. Have fun!!
