Alta/Snowbird

I'm looking to go to Utah the first week of march. Snowbird/Alta seems to interest me, but I can't seem to get a handle on where to stay. I would like to come off the mountain and be somewhat in walking distance, but does alta or snowbird have a village? I'm not looking for swinging nightlife, but a place where there's some resturants/pubs, etc...

thanks
mike

I believe there are some restaurants/pubs at Snowbird. Up at Alta is the Alta Lodge and the Rustler. Both are at the base of the ski area. Check out the ski area's websites for lodging info.
Skied at Alta 2 weeks ago and the conditions were amazing. One my favorite places to ski!

Hi Mike! Here's an answer on Snowbird & Alta. Snowbird has a village area with several excellent restaurants & a choice of 4 Snowbird properties to stay. The Cliff Lodge - 4 star hotel with restaurants, a spa & a roof top swimming pool. THE place to be apres ski. What a view!! There is also the Lodge at Snowbird, and The Iron Blossom - condos. Be sure to ask for a mountain side room, they are more but the view is worth it.

Alta is much more rustic. they have one of my favorite restaurants though, The Shallow Shaft. The two lodgesBM mentioned are kind of old style ski lodges which a lot of people return to every year. It depends on what you like.

You may already know that Snowbird & Alta offer a shared lift ticket for the first time this year. However, snowboarders are not allowed at Alta.

Little Cottonwood has much more challenging skiing & much better snow that the Park City "Wasatch back". But Park City has the night lift & lots of activities besides skiing.

I just got back from a trip to Utah. Alta and Snowbird were absolutely amazing, and were much better than Park City Resort. We did not ski Deer Valley or The Canyons, or the Solitude/Brighton duo either.

If we went back, we'd want to stay in Park City town. The upside is fun nightlife, restaurants - and a walkable fun town. The downside is the 30 minute "commute" to and from Snowbird/Alta each morning.

Snowbird and Alta really seemed to have little going on. Getting drinks after 8pm will be very difficult. If ski on/ski off is important to you then do wsometthing liek hte Rustler or goldminer's daughter, but keep in mind that off-ski activities will be extremely limited.
