aloha - long term stay 1 month, rental agencies?

hi everyone!

thanks if you can help.

this is less a touring question than a question for locals in hawaii:

i want to stay for about a month while i write up a long-term project for work. all the vrbo type sites are geared toward tourists, it seems, with sky-high rates. are there any real estate type websites you've used for a residential rental on oahu in maybe the area around the university (like a student/faculty resource?)

any info that is not vrbo or hawaii rentals dot com would be most welcome. my budget cannot handle $1500 a week...maybe there's a building that caters to people from u of hawaii?

mahalo!

i should add that i'd assumed oahu would be least expensive, but i'm willing to try it out on any of the islands.

thanks,
kerikeri

aloha kerikeri,

http://www.vrbo.com/107980

I have stayed here recently... it's wonderful. It's on the north shore O'ahu in Mokuleia... great views & beach is across the street. Owners name is Gina, if you contact her let her know that Lisa from IL referred you.

Aloha... happy writing!

thanks, lisa. i'm sure it's lovely, but i'm kind of uncomfortable with those low slung windows in the bedroom on the ground floor...that's why i was thinking high trise building (can take the girl out of the city...).

also nearly $3K for the month...wow! maybe i'm dreaming. i thought things woulod be a tad lower...

thanks, though!

I don't think 1-month is really considered a long term stay, to find things not "geared towards tourists", quite honestly. Many people stay that long (retired folks and all).

You could look at apartments at places like The Royal Grove or The Hawaiian King in Waikiki.

Or contacting the University might be a good idea, because that is located away from the tourist parts like Waikiki.

Royal Grove rents the most basic apartments (includes kitchen) for $330/week. That's the cheapest I know of within Waikiki.

Good luck!! If you figure something clever out, please let us know. I hope to spend longer times there myself, in the future.

On the BI, Middle Ke'ei Studio is $1475 month. But you would need a car, since it is in a rural area. About 25 minutes south of Kailua Kona. http://www.konaweb.com/middle_keei/

I meant to say per month. Sorry, I see you said Oahu. You can check on the same website for Oahu.

If you have a car you might not want to be right in Waikiki afterall. Parking is a bear.

I'm no expert but think possibly the student housing areas in Honolulu might be worth checking on. good luck!
