Alexandria, VA, Washington, DC

Looking for comments on Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria and Westin Alexandria. Which is better location for touring Wash DC, for walking around the area, for shopping and browsing?
Thanks

So others don't have to look up the addresses but might be familiar with Alexandria in general...

Sheraton Suites Old Town Alexandria (OTA) is located at 801 N St Asaph St, Alexandria, VA 22314 about 7 blocks from King Street, which to my knowledge is the main street of OTA.

Westin Alexandria is located at 400 Courthouse Square, Alexandria, VA

For ease in visiting D.C. from Alexandria, you want to be close to the King Street Metro station. Based on the addresses provided above, the Sheraton is 1.7 miles from the Metro station and the Westin is only 0.4 mile away. They are about equidistant from the "shopping and browsing" on King Street, which is the main street of Old Town Alexandria.

I'd go with the Westin b/c of its walking proximity to the King Street metro. I'm sure the Sheraton has a shuttle to the metro, most likely Reagan Airport which is a couple of stops closer into the city than King Street.

If you mean that you want to tour DC, and walk around DC, and shop and browse in DC, you should stay in DC. Old Town Alexandria is great, but it will take you 45 minutes each way to actually get to DC.

Actually more like 20-25 minutes depending on the time of day.

We usually stay at the Embassy Suites in Alexandria . . it is right across the street from the King St. Metro station and a 15 min walk to Old Town.

We like the "break" from DC with a chance to relax in a different ambiance
