Alcatraz visit, - - yes, or no?

Would a trip to Alcatraz be a definite activity we should plan? Sounds like the night trip there is interesting and one gets more for their money. What is your recommendation? With so many things to see there, in SF, can one skip Alcatraz and not regret it?

I enjoyed the day trip there. You get a great view of the city that you won't see anywhere else and the history of the island includes an occupation by Native Americans in the 60's. It is worth it if you are not stretched for time.

I liked the night tour, you see more, get day and sunset shots which are so amazing, and it only takes up 4-5pm- and we took a 7pm ferry back, so we had the whole day and evening still...

If you are there for more than a couple of days I would definitely plan on going.

Depending on when you are going, you may need to book ferry tickets in advance - we were there several years ago over 7/4 week and they were totally sold out (we got around this by buying a 1/2 day city bus tour that included Alcatraz tickets)
