Alcatraz Tour Day or Evening

We are in San Francisco between 14/18 September 2006. Which would you choose the day time or early evening tour of Alcatraz?
Any comments would be appreciated.
Will be booking tickets this week.
Thanks.

I did the daytime trip and it was good. I am not sure that a night trip would be as interesting....unless there is something special they do?

My only tip would be to wear warm clothes. I feel dumb now, but never expected the air to be as cold as it is in San Francisco.

We did the night time tour - I recall 6.30 - last year about that time. It was great and we got to see the view of the city from Alcatraz as the sun was setting. It was truly spectacular. Also I understand the evening tours included the tape headsets with the price of the tour.

I did an early evening tour in May which I think started around 5pm (or so). Supposedly they let us into areas of Alcatraz that the day tours aren't allowed into and we were able to do more than the day tours. Also, supposedly there are less people there for the evening tours than the day tours.
