Alcatraz, Muir Woods tour question
Going to Alcatraz and Muir Woods. There does not appear to be a tour that takes you early evening to appreciate the skyline that also goes to Muir Woods. It is more economical to do Alcatraz combined with Muir Woods rather than separately, but if Fodorites like yourself recommend my seeing Alcatraz at night I would buy the tours separately. I would do blue and gold fleet for the evening tour.
Any favorite tours for Muir or that combine both?
Thanks
Ken

We did both Muir Woods and Alcatraz last summer. We had a rental car to see Muir Woods so I don't know about the tour. We went to Alcatraz at night and it was IMO the best time to go. It was a beautiful view of the SF skyline on the ride back. Alcatraz was really cool.

I think Muir Woods toors are usually combined with Sausalito, not Alcatraz. If you can do all of them: Muir, Sausalito, Alcatraz. I'm sure you can't see SF from the Woods, but you can take a boat back from Sausalito for changing views.

Hey Kendu,
Just got back from a trip about a week ago. We did Muir Woods seperately - rented a car and explored on our own. It's such a peaceful place I think you might prefer hiking there at your own pace and taking it all in. Took a blue and gold tour to Alcatraz. Went during the daytime but I'm sure a night tour would provide great views of SF (assuming the weather cooperates) and add to the atmosphere inside the prison. I'm not at all sure if they combine tours with Muir Woods but just did a quick yahoo search and came up with this site that does some combined tours: www.alcatraz.us
Maybe you could call them or blue and gold to find out if anyone combines Muir with Alcatraz?
