Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta Question

Is it really necessary to purchase a ticket to get into Fiesta Park or are you able to get the same view/feel from another spot around town?

Having been there, I would have to say that you would miss the experience of being up close and personal with the balloons and the crew. Sometimes the crew will let you assist in the take off. There is nothing like panning your camcorder 360 degrees and seeing nothing but balloons. Also, you need to be on the park grounds for the evening Balloon Glow.

If you don't go to the field, you can't have a breakfast burrito! *YUM*

The balloons and burritos will make the drive worth the effort!

Remember, traffic will be crazy. Plan plenty (no, even more than that!) of time for driving or check out the shuttles.

There is nothing like the sound of the burners to get my heart pumping.

Oh, you MUST be on the grounds for the Mass Liftoff on the weekend and the 'Moon Glow'. Get there early so you can sample the foods. Nothing like seeing the preparations and actual liftoffs (at dawn). Take jackets as it can be cold before dawn. Enjoy!!!! (Take LOTS of film/video. Can always delete but can not insert that special photo that you did not take.)

If you've never been, do purchase a ticket and experience the Fiesta the way it's meant to be done. Dress in layers, bring lots of film or a really big memory card for your camera, get a breakfast burrito and some coffee, and enjoy!

If you'll be in town for several days, you can see the balloons in the air from all over town. Usually you will be able to watch most of them land as well, which is kind of fun, too.

PS: Hope you already have your hotel/motel reservations since they book out really early.
