Alaska Kenai Peninsula Help
Have 5 days in Alaska after a cruise disembarks in Whittier.
Will fly home from Anchorage.
Have read that we should see Seward and Homer. Suggestions on how many days / nights in each, plus other places to see? Time also in Anchorage? (trying to figure out hotels). Thanks!

Dear Linda:
Driving times in Alaska are deceiving. It takes much longer than you would expect. I can't recall the exact drive times, but Seward to Homer could be over 3 hours. Seward to Anchorage maybe 2-3. Summer is the big construction time, so lots of road work going on, plus all the motor homes on the road.
The Kenai is beautiful. Others more knowledgable will chime in here I hope. Do a search here for reports and advice.

I've forgotten how far it is from Whittier to Seward but it's not long at all. Suggest you go directly to Seward, enjoy walking the town and visiting Sea Life Center. Despite being on a cruise, you might still want to do an all day Kenai Fjords trip. You would have time for dinner afterwards. Stay in Seward another night. Next day you could do Exit Glacier hike and drive to Homer, about 3 hours. You might time it for lunch in Soldotna which is about half way. There's not much in between although there's a tiny seafood shack in Ninilchik that's hard to find. Soldotna is a large town with shopping and lots of options. Two nights in Soldotna would be nice but it's about 5 hours back to Anchorage and you will still want to see Girdwood/tram ride. Assume you have a late flight home so you might be able to spend all day driving back to Anchorage. Lots of photo ops. Doesn't sound like you have much time for Anchorage. You could drive Seward to Homer after dinner to have more time in Anchorage.
