alaska cruise question

I was going to do a northbound cruise on Princess which goes to Glacier Bay. The cruise ends in Whittier from Whittier I was planning to go to Seward to take the Kenai fjord tour and stay in seward overnight. But my problem is how do I get from Whittier to Seward. I don't see any transportation options. Once I get to Seward I was going to rent a car to continue to Anchorage.

I googled it and found several transportation options available. I would take the train from Seward to Anchorage. Most scenic route and 4 hours is just the right amount of time.

I believe the problem is Whittier to Seward? The train doesn't go that route, does it? And rental cars are expensive in Whittier.

We have researched this question in reverse - will have car in Alaska (rented at ANC airport) and then need to get to Whittier. Will be on Kenai Peninsula immediately prior to cruise.

We have found no way to get to Whittier other than returning car to ANC and taking bus, train or cruise transfer option from ANC to Whittier. Will be curious if you find anything different.

If you plan to go to Seward, then the cruise that ends in Whittier is a poor choice. Whittier is rather small and isolated. The best bet is probably the train to Anchorage and rent a car there or take the train back down to Seward.

Whether or not Whittier is a good choice is often over-ruled by other factors. Princess cruises that go one-way end or begin in Whittier.

Get off cruise at Whittier. Take train or bus to Anchorage. Rent car. Drive to Seward. Return in car to Anchorage.

You're doubling back roughly 90 min. (i.e. you pass the Whittier tunnel turn-off en route to Seward) but the savings in rental car costs will be more than worth it.

Plus, having the car will greatly improve your flexibility as you go to/from Seward.

I did do more research and see that I would have to take a shuttle service from Whittier to Anchorage. So agree that would be my best option and then rent a car drive to Seward stay overnight drive back to anchorage stay overnight there before taking the train to Denali next morning.
Thanks to all for your help.

mmouse - not true. You can take a bus from Whittier to Anchorage - www.alaskatransportation.net.

Then take the train from Seward to Anchorage, and rent a car there.

Oops, sorry! - I meant you can take the bus from Whittier to SEWARD on www.alaskatransportation.net.

Then you don't have to double back to Anchorage.
