Do a search here. Someone else had a post would you pay extra for an exit aisle or aisle seat? I believe it is Northwest that came up with this brainstorm.

Next thing you know, they'll be charging you extra for a seatbelt.

Northwest is currently trying this on a limited basis..OFFERING a certain percentage of these sorts of seats for extra money...not MANDATING it. Other airlines, as usual, are watching closely, just as they watched when American started charging a fee for curbside check-in.

What some have predicted is that eventually the airlines might even start charging for checked luggage.

I'd bet they start charging more for carry-on bags before checked bags. They could move passengers on & off aircraft so much faster, and security checkpoint time would drop too.

even crazier...I overhead folks on my flight talking about an airline (Northwest I think...) charging extra for bathroom usage! That is just absurd. I mean, what are they going to do...make it a coin slot or even better start selling pre-paid bathroom cards? jeez

acaigirl - NW doesn't charge extra for using the bathroom.

Didn't we beat this very subject to death a week or so ago?

Yes, we did.

And for a matter like this, one should better stick to the facts than myths. Northwest are charging extra for only a few selected seats on each flight - maybe 5% of them - mostly exit rows and perhaps one or two "choice" aisle seat. You still get lots and lots of window and aisle seats to choose from, without paying extra.

What rikkwan posted is exactly what the email from NW said. And it applies only to domestic flights right now, not international flights.

Be on the lookout for a future "landing fee".

They should put a bill slot to access the O2 mask and the seat cushion flotation device. WHat a heck of a time to not be able to fold that dollar perfectly flat to get the slot to take it!
