airfare to Jackson Hole
I started checking into airfare in Feb. for Jackson Hole for the first part of August and am rather surpised on how expensive it is. Is it because it is a smaller airport and has limited flights so the airlines can charged more. I went ahead and booked tickets but did I make a mistake and should have just kept on checking on the chance that the price would come down a bit?

I tried every combination, scheme, website, etc I could last summer to fly to Yellowstone from Boston. Checked Bozeman, Billings, Idaho Falls. Checked different days of week, times of day. Kept hoping price would come down (it only went up).
Only bargain we found was to fly into Salt Lake City - but since we only had 7 days total I did not want to spend the better part of 2 days driving to/from SLC.
Also were unable to use FF miles on any of several airlines except using 50,000 miles.
So in the end we flew into Jackson Hole and had a great trip - hope you do as well.

The lack of competition and the fact that some flights into that airport are seasonal may be why the prices stay as high as they do and as long as they do.
Waiting for the prices to go down may eventually work but how long is a person supposed to wait?????

From experience, it's rare to find any bargain flights to Jackson. Sure, the price might come down a little, but why spend all that time and have the stress involved to save a few dollars? You got the tickets....now, plan a trip to a great destination.

Sorry, I misread your OP . . . didn't realize you already have tickets. I don't think you should spend any more time worrying for nothing. You have tickets now for the busiest part of the season, so I'd just be glad I got them for our vacation days and begin getting excited about the trip! ;-)

Thanks for your responses. I have been checking weekly to see what the fares are. They only vary about $50.00. Usually they are higher so I guess I'll stop worrying about it. I got good departure times coming and going and that counts for something too.

When we were there last year early August Air Force 2 (Dick Cheney) was parked on a far corner of the airport the entire time we were there - local people said he vacations there - or would that be comes home there - early August most years.
