Airfare - I can just kick myself

Just yesterday I found airfare from Detroit to Paris from April 19 thru April 27 - seven night in Paris - for $481.00.

What a terrific price! I was gonna snatch it up, but I waited until today to do it. Of course, we all know what happened, not only did those dates close down for discounts, but the whole month of April did, too! So now I am left with a $750.00 airfare for the same dates!

Does anyone have any airfare words of wisdom for someone who is in need of some wisdom?

My advice - If you're set on those dates, buy the tickets when the price is one you can live with (even if it is $750). If you're not set on those dates, and are willing to risk that you'll either not be able to go at all, or risk that you'll have to pay even more, wait to see what happens.

I definitely can't say that prices will come back down, but I've been tracking fares to Paris and have seen them for March and April bounce up and down. Maybe they'll bounce down again, maybe they won't. I was looking at it and figuring if I found a good price for dates I could go (March is out for me, and April I don't know yet), I'll buy. If it doesn't work out, then I won't go. That may not work for you though . . .

Don't despair!

Keep looking. Check the fares several times a day. Sometimes a good fare will appear for only a limited number of seats on only one airline; these disappear FAST, so grab the next one that comes along.

You have almost a month to go before getting too anxious. I seem to recall that airlines put on the sale fares during midweek, but can't say this for sure.

Also check out Auto Europe. They buy blocks of airline tickets to go with their car rentals, but you don't have to get a car rental to purchase their airfare specials. I once lucked out and got a RT from the West Coast to Paris for about $500 - this through Auto Europe. So keep looking!

Maybe others know of good prices that are less advertised, such as Auto Europe's.

Good luck!

I guess what really grinds me is that yesterday EVERY airline had sales for March and April - Northwest, American, Lufthansa, British Air, Continental...and today, NONE of them do.

I can't be convinced that this isn't an organized effort by the airliens - antitrust laws or not!
