A pre-flight decongestant i.e. Sudafed, etc. seems to work for me. If I understand right, it has something to do with sinuses (I can tell you exactly which windows on me). I have experienced these all my life on many flights but not all. I was told about this remedy in later years and it has never failed to work for me. Like I said, I didn't get them every time before, but about two-thirds. It was more frequent when I flew visited several Southeastern Asian countries 25 years ago, but have certainly had them on domestic flights too since then. It always happens at the same time (on desent) and most often just before touchdown. It feels like a thousand needles coming through my forehead and even brings me to tears - quietly. As soon as the plane touches down, the pain immediately decreases, but my head is sore for awhile. I wonder if this is how it is for others? I sympathize with you. Very painful.

You can try chewing gum, but one of the remedies that I've seen used successfully on planes is to get the flight attendant to get you two plastic cups, and in the cups are damp paper towels. The damp paper towels and cups are heated in the microwave. Place the cups over your ears at take off and landing. The steam and warmth relieves the pressure on your eardrums. You'll need to get the cups zapped again just before landing.

wow thanks you guys!
I have had some serious sinus trouble when flying. I even had to go to the dentist's office a(thinking I had a cavity in my upper molars!) thankfully..the hygienist came out and showed me a pic of my sinuses inflammed! looked liek golf balls!LOL
anyway...I hear u..on descent and touchdown is when they hit..It is an awful feeling. I cried the first time it happened and i asked the flight attendant for an aspirin (this is about 10 yrs ago) and she said..we cant give them to you.. I said..ok..she asked the copilot what I can do for the horrid headache and she came back and told me he said to hold my nose..plug it liek u are going under water and then breathe out.. it worked sometimes!!
and the damp cloths are a good idea too..thanks!!
i will pack the sudafed.. I am leaving sunday for the caribbean! (GC)
thank you again!!!!!!

If it's congestion that creates your headaches, consider "Drixoral". Over the counter. Non-drowsy for just congestion. Regular with anti-histamine.
