Aida or Beauty and the Beast

I would like to see a show on Broadway on an upcoming trip to NY. I wanted to see The Lion King but unfortunately have not been able to obtain tickets for dates that would suit my stay.

My friends and I have narrowed our choice to two shows "Aida" and "Beauty and the Beast". In your opinion which is better? We are all in our mid-twenties.

Thanks in advance.

Lee

both are wonderful and a lot would depend on your own preferences. Beauty is the movie brought to life on stage. Great, big fun. I thought Aida had a slow start-was regretting going at first, but wait it out and it becomes wonderful. a lettle darker than Beauty is the only way I can describe it. You wont go wrong with either one.

You won't go wrong with either. I would base my selection on which of the shows you can get the best seats for and if either is discounted.

I don't know your dates, but over the weekend I bought tickets on ebay.com for Lion King (center Orchestra in the 10th row) as well as tickets for Movin' Out. Have you checked on ebay for your dates? Since Lion King is your first choice, I'd check ebay before I resorted to a second choice.

Thank you all for your replies. We will be in NY from the 26th Dec to the 30th (depart early evening). Thank you for your tip regarding ebay - I'll check there now.

Vic:

Tried ebay - no luck!! Thanks for the tip anyway.

I think we will opt for Beauty and the Beast. It may be second choice but we're still really excited about seeing it!

Thanks again.

lee, for what it is worth, although a lot of people say that Beauty and the Beast is for kids, as a real theatre person I loved it. A former student of mine has been the production stage manager for Phantom on national tour, and has been the production stage manager for such Hal Prince shows as Showboat on Broadway. He told me a few years ago that his favorite Broadway production of all time is Beauty and the Beast. This revelation embarrassed his wife to no end. He had no relation with Beauty and the Beast, just thought it was one of the best productions ever.

Good Luck Lee! I hope you get just what you're looking for. Your dates are toughies....a very popular time for theater tickets, and probably will be like that until around the 4th or 5th of January when folks start leaving. Even the pickins on ebay is probably slim during those dates. I too loved Beauty and the Beast. Good Luck!
