Aghhh! I broke my toe before my trip!

Yesterday I stubbed my pinkie toe and I am planning to go to Four Seasons Lanai tomorrow for a few days. This morning it is swollen and blue. How miserable is this!?! I am so angry at the situation!

This is like a repeat of an incident 8 years ago. I broke or fractured my 2 middle toes two days before our big trip to Europe in the middle of spring (still cold in Hamburg). I managed to hobble all around Europe in my Birkenstocks (the only footwear that my foot could bear).

The only comfort is this time my pinkie didn't hurt as bad as breaking my 2 middle toes did. I'm hoping this little toe will recover quicker. At least I know this time my toes won't be freezing cold in my Birkenstocks.

Anyone got quick remedies????

I've broken my pinkie toes a couple of times and I always get comfort from taping the toe securely to the next toe (sometimes with cotton ball in between the toes)and then wrap the tape around your foot to immobilize it as much as possible. I hope you went to your doctor for an x-ray just to be sure that there is not more damage involved and to assess the type of break. If it is just a simple crack on the pinkie, though, there is probably not much they can do.
By the way, I am NOT a medical person, just a fellow pinkie toe breaker!

Tape it firmly to the next toe for a little better support and it should ease the pain.

And if that doesn't work, a few mai tais should help.

Thanks. My hubby said to do the same thing and tape it. He said the doctors can't do anything and all they will do is tape it. Sigh...I guess I will have to skip the water aerobics in the pool!

Oh Offlady, I'm sorry to hear of your accident. I have done that twice. All you can do is tape it to the other toe. Have you iced it?

Been there, done that! I'd advise getting some of the two inch stretch athletic tape in flesh color and wrapping once around the entire lower toe area including the bottom of the foot. That seemed to give me more support those first few days and it seemed to keep down the swelling too. Be smart about what shoes you take with you. Think sandals....Birkenstock style with support around the taped area, but with flexible sides. I have a pair of Easy Spirit sandals that would be perfect. Another option would be sandals with wide adjustable straps such as Ecco's or Clarks'. Stay away from flip-flops or you may end up bumping into something and compounding the injury and try to look at the experience as an opportunity to work on your tan...

I feel your pain!
I broke my foot before I won a trip to Sydney with a suite at the Four Seasons for a week and I was in a cast and my DR didn't want to sign off to let me go because he stated that after any type of foot surgery or injury to the leg that the likelihood of Deep Vein Thrombosis increases significantly, especially on longer flights...
I just won this $20K Fab trip and he is saying I could die and I am telling him that if it's my time its my time and he made me sign this form to release liability..
I went anyway for the 18 hour flight and drank alot of cocktails to get my blood thin. and keep my foot always moving.. at least you aren't in a cast so you can swim and enjoy Hawaii!
Tape it and have a mai tai, the best remedy I know of..
Aloha to you..

Thanks for all of the advice. I think the mai tai advice worked the best! The Four Seasons Manale on Lanai is like new, just finished with refurbishing, bringing it up to Four Seasons standards. It was very relaxing and felt like we were the only ones on property. How do they do that?

Anyway, so now I am 3 days away from our family summer trip to Kentucky (this time WITH kids). So guess what--I slipped getting out of the shower this morning, fell, hit my shin on the edge of the tub, fell over outside and my knee hit the floor hard, the corner of the vanity counter narrowly missing my head. I have bruises on my shin and kneecap, and walking stairs is a bit painful right now. Being Sunday, must've been the devil trying to keep me from going to church!
Aghhh! Here I go again!

I'm so sorry Offlady!! You were so lucky not to hit your head!

I think that there are times when we are just more proned to these sorts of "accidents". Lately I have been very clumsy. I think sometimes we just rush too much.

I hope you recover soon!

Good grief offlady, I have had periods like that! I am so sorry. Are you under some kind of stress? That is when those kind of accidents have happened to me. Normally I don't have any accidents but a few times in my life I have had more than one, all within a few weeks. I hope your time in Kentucky will be relaxing for you.

Do take care! Wishing you a relaxing time in Kentucky with your family. And move carefully, please! Best regards.

You bring back memories! I broke my pinkie just b4 my wedding, 38 yrs ago this Th. I was so afraid I was going to have to hobble down the aisle but I taped it and was even able to tolerate high heels long enough to get thru the ceremony. Taping does help. You should do OK in HI bcs you can wear sandals everywhere. Have a wonderful time.

NO! Don't tape the toe yourself! Have your doctor do this if you do it at all.

If you try yourself, you risk making it worse or aggrivating the toe.

I've done this more than I care to think about.

I would go visit your doctor just for the drugs because that is about all they can do.

I feel your pain, literally because I'm cringing!
