hi everyone,
thanks so much for the advice/comments ... we'll do the airtrain/e train from JFK to our hotel when we arrive. our bags will be very light and stairs will be very manageable. we'll play our return trip by ear ... depending on our bags. we'll also have the airtrain/e train experience under our belts to know whether it's feasible.
tks so much!

The E rain station at 53rd and Lexington (by your hotel) has escalators from street level all the way down to the platform (though they are not always working). At the Jamaica end, there are escalators as well as elevators to take you to the Air Train level.
