Advice for budget hotels in NYC (Midtown)

I am looking for a hotel in NYC for 150$-200$ (taxes INcluded), preferably in midtown. Arrival will be 10/27, departure 11/02.
I checked out several websites, 'Rants & Raves' but most hotels in that price range get very low scores so any opinions will be appreciated. Thank you.

Stayed at the Howard Johnson Plaza last week.Decent enough and a good location at 51st and 8th. We used quikbook.com and paid 139$+tax for 3 adults.

Check out the website for www.nychotels.com - they have a number of very reasonably-priced locations around the city. I haven't stayed at any of their properties, but someone else here recommended one of them recently.

Guy: Check out Quikbook.com you can probably stay at the New York Helmsley for under $200 and it is a 4 Star Hotel on East 42nd Street. Another good value is the Clarion 5th Avenue.

Good Luck and let us know what you decide on.

Why not try a 4 star hotel thru Priceline? You can view details about what hotels and prices have come up in the past at www.biddingfortravel.com. I've seen lots of winning bids (on that board) for 4* hotels for ~$100.

The Best Western President on 48th (near 8th) is a good bet too. Have heard the rooms are small, but the location is excellent (currently next door to the Tom Selleck play and across the street from another play called "Proof") and the prices are very reasonable.

If you haven't already, check out www.newyork.citysearch.com which has given it favorable reviews.

The Warwick was right in the middle of it, very clean, beautifllu decorated rooms, small but very stylish lobby, wonderful staff! I cannot say enough great things about this hotel,a nd I am picky! They even upgraded us to a jr. Suite w/ a bottle of champagne and a had written note for our 1st anniv.... only $169 (far less than was advertised on the internet) Please email me if you need any more information on this great find!!

There's a story in the new Frommer's Budget Travel magazine about B&B's in NYC and says they're in all neighborhoods. Don't know if that would interest you or not but the article gives several services to use.

I am staying at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square next week and got it thru priceline.com for $110 a night, I hear it's a pretty nice hotel.

Amy: Don't confuse August prices with October. The fall is high season in New York right through the holidays. Once Labor Day arrives, hotels prices go up and the deals go down. Prices drop again January through March.
