Sorry - I keep reading more of this post. The Newcomb Visitor's Center is a truly beautiful place. It is a wonderful piece of property with a great, undeveloped lake. The center itself is pretty, but the attraction is getting outside on the property either hiking or kayaking or canoeing.

Another thing really close to there is the Santanoni Great Camp. You can rent bikes or a horse-drawn wagon to go in there 9I think it's about 5 miles one way on a dirt road). It's fascinating.
