A week vacation in Nov for Anniversary celebrations
We are in our early 30s and looking to visit some place in USA for one week during Thanksgiving week. Turning to Fodors for some advice/recommendations. We are not very picky but we cannot travel out of the country. We have already visited major cities like NY, Chicago, SF, LA, Boston, Orlando, places in Connecticut. etc. We are open to fly to one destination and do a road trip. Please pour in your suggestions.

Where are you coming from? (That does make some difference, especially with a one week trip.)
My suggestion is Philadelphia, the home of the nation's oldest Thanksgiving Day parade and a place with a wealth of things to do in your week of time, from the historical to art to food to culture and more. Let us know your interests and we can be more specific, of course! You could do a road trip to Lancaster during the week, but there is plenty if you just stay in the city, and you don't need a car in the city as it's walkable and has good public transportation.

Williamsburg, VA
You could fly into Richmond or Norfolk or Washington, DC and drive.
Williamsburg is lovely. Christmas decorations will be up. You will find several places serving nice traditional Thanksgiving dinners as well as some serving seafood.
If you fly into Richmond, it is only about an hours drive down to Williamsburg. Richmond has an excellent museum, some really interesting buildings such as Agecroft, good restaurants, etc. spend a day or two, then drive on down to Williamsburg.
Norfolk area has a couple of fabulous museums and some outstanding restaurants. It also is only about an hour and a half drive up to Williamsburg. Visit the Chrysler Museum and historic Ghent. There is an excellent theater in Norfolk - might be a play going on. You could easily spend a day or two there before going to Williamsburg.
The Norfok airport is also only about a half hour from VA beach which should still be warm enough for at least walking on the beach with a sweater or light jacket. Most of the hotels have heated pools and are pretty cheap in winter. There are also some quite good restaurants. The boardwalk is really, really nice.
Near Williamsburg, along the James River are some of the oldest plantation homes in the US, very historic. There are also several other historic places nearby.
There are many concert and theater venues in the Williamsburg, Newport News, Norfok area.
Flying into DC would be my last choice if I wanted to go to Williamsburg, but if you did, you could tour Washington's home, Mount Vernon (of course tons of other places of interest if you wished to stay in DC.), head down to Fredericksburg (nice historic place to tour) and on down to Williamsburg.
Another warmer city would be Charleston, SC. Pretty, historic, good food.

A few years ago we spent Thanksgiving in New Orleans and then took a few days to drive north along the Mississippi River to the Mississippi Delta and ultimately Memphis. It was one of our all-time favorite trips, with great food, wonderful music - jazz, blues, gospel - and wonderful things to see, from Civil War sites to the Delta Blues Museum, Beale Street... It's a marvelous part of the country at a great time of year.

How about Santa Fe? Fly into Albuquerque, rent a car, stay in Santa Fe and do day trips to Taos, Abiquiu, the Turquoise Trail... stunningly beautiful countryside (lots of hiking if you're so inclined, although it will be coldish around Thanksgiving), great food and drink in Santa Fe, plus art, shopping...

Thank you all!!!!! really really appreciate your inputs. Also so sorry for not mentioning our starting point. we live in Northern Virgina near DC area. So We are very familar with MD, Philly area.
I like New Orleans idea as well as Santa Fe one. I'm surprised no one mentioned Austin.. Is that a good option in Nov/Thanksgiving time?
We are thinking of flying to Austin from IAD/WAS and spend few days exploring Austin and San Antonio then fly to Albuquerque and rent a car and visit Santa Fe and Taos, Abiquiu, etc. in 3-4 days and return back to DC from Albuquerque.
