A question for St. Louis Fodorites

I've heard Joe Buck say several times now that the new Busch Stadium is the third one by this name. Well, I grew up 45 miles from St. Louis. And graduated from eighth grade the year that the recently demolished stadium opened. So I'm old enough to remember its predecessor, which I could have sworn was called Sportsman's Park. Is my memory faulty?

Yes, it was called Sportsman's Park and only could seat about 34,000.

Thanks, No_Name. So what's with Joe Buck insisting this is the third Busch Stadium?

When the Busch family bought the team in the 1950s, they renamed Sportsman's Park Busch Stadium.

Ah-ha, so it was one of those deals where it was officially renamed but everyone continued to refer to it by the old name. Thanks.
